For counsellors
NIHB provider? Get pre-screened referrals to your practice.
We match First Nations and Inuit clients in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba with NIHB-enrolled counsellors near them. In person, at your office, on your schedule. No platform, no software, no fees.
Built from the public NIHB provider lists. Claim yours to add a photo, focus areas, languages and whether you're taking new clients. We verify every claim personally.

How a referral works
We handle the NIHB counsellor referrals. You do what you already do.
Four steps, all handled by a person. Nothing is auto-matched, and nothing lands on your desk that doesn't fit.
A client completes our intake
Location, concerns, preferences and coverage. A real person reads every intake.
We call you when there's a genuine fit
Only when location, needs and preferences line up with your practice. No blasted inboxes.
You decide, with no obligation
Full caseload? Not the right fit? Just say so. Declining costs you nothing and doesn't take you off our list.
We make a warm introduction
Then we step back. From there the client is yours: your intake, your NIHB billing.
The arrangement
Plain terms, both directions.
No contract to sign and nothing to install. Here's what working with us actually looks like.
We only refer people whose location, concerns and preferences match what you've told us about your practice.
You're enrolled as an NIHB mental health counselling provider, or you're eligible and willing to enrol.
By the time we call, the client knows about NIHB counselling benefits and we've talked through their eligibility.
Our whole reason for existing is face-to-face counselling. Clients come to your office, in or near their community.
We never charge counsellors, take a cut, or ask you to work with us alone. Referrals are a gift, not a subscription.
Our clients are First Nations and Inuit people, and many carry intergenerational trauma. This isn't optional for us.
We do the searching, the phone calls and the introduction. You meet a client who's ready to book.
If you're full, tell us. We'd far rather hear “not right now” than have a client wait weeks for a first reply.
Who you'd be working with
Built for First Nations and Inuit clients, and careful about it.
Wapan is a matching service for First Nations and Inuit clients, not a therapy platform. Our name, wâpan, means “it is dawn” in Plains Cree (nêhiyawêwin), and we use it with attribution everywhere it appears. We take cultural protocols seriously, and we take client privacy just as seriously: intake information is shared with you only with the client's consent, and only what you need to decide.
We're a small team doing this work by hand, and we'd rather be honest and slow than slick and careless.

Good referrals, no strings.
If you serve First Nations and Inuit clients in person on the Prairies, we'd like to know you exist. That's the whole ask.
