Terms of service

The deal, in plain words.

Terms pages are usually written to be skipped. Ours is short and honest: what Wapan is, what we promise, where our job ends, and what we ask of you.

What Wapan is

Wapan is a free matching and referral service, plus a public directory of NIHB-enrolled counsellors across Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba. You tell us what you're looking for; a person on our team searches, makes calls, and introduces you to a counsellor.

Just as important is what we are not: we are not a healthcare provider. We don't provide counselling, therapy, or medical advice, and nothing on this site is any of those things. The counsellors we introduce you to are independent professionals. No counsellor is our employee.

Your relationship with counsellors

Once an introduction is made, the therapeutic relationship is between you and the counsellor. Your session records, your care, and all clinical responsibility sit with them, governed by their professional college: the body that registers social workers, psychologists, certified counsellors and psychiatric nurses in your province.

That's a good thing: it means the person you're sitting with answers to a professional standard that exists to protect you, not to a website.

What we promise, and what we can't

We promise:

  • Honest answers. If we can't find someone near you, we say so and point you to who can help.
  • Human matching. A real person reads your intake and searches on your behalf. No algorithm decides who you see.
  • Your privacy, handled exactly as our privacy policy says.

We can't promise:

  • That a counsellor is available near you. Coverage across the Prairies is uneven, and we won't pretend otherwise.
  • How sessions turn out. Counselling is human work between you and your counsellor.
  • NIHB decisions. The NIHB program decides eligibility and coverage, not us. We help you understand and navigate it, but the decision is the program's.

Directory accuracy

Directory listings come from the public NIHB provider lists and from updates counsellors give us when they claim their profiles. We keep it as current as we can, but people move, retire, and change their practices, so please verify details like address and availability with the provider before you travel.

Counsellors can claim their listing, correct it, or ask us to remove it at any time, with no conditions attached.

Acceptable use

The directory exists so people can find care. Please don't:

  • Scrape or bulk-copy the directory.
  • Impersonate a counsellor, a client, or anyone else.
  • Misuse counsellor information. It's here for finding a counsellor, not for marketing lists or harvesting.

Not a crisis service

Matching takes days, and a crisis can't wait for a form. If you need support right now, call the Hope for Wellness Help Line at 1-855-242-3310 or call/text 988. Both are free, 24/7. More options are on our crisis page.

Changes & contact

If we change these terms, we'll change the date at the top and say what changed. These terms are governed by the laws of Saskatchewan and applicable federal law.
