Before we begin

Take your time. This isn't a test.

  • This takes about 10 minutes. Your answers save on this device as you go, so you can leave and come back.
  • Only a few things are required. Everything else is up to you. Share as much or as little as feels right.
  • A real person on our small team reads your intake (not an algorithm) and reaches out within 2 business days.
  • Have your status card (or Inuit enrolment number) handy. Counsellors need the number to bill NIHB.

What should we call you?

Just enough to say hello properly and reach you back.

How do you prefer we reach you?

Your community

First Nations and Inuit peoples are distinct, and telling us who you are helps us match with that in mind. Share only what you're comfortable with.

How do you identify?

Where should we look?

All of our counselling is in person, so this is the most important question we ask. We search for counsellors as close to you as we can find.

How far are you able to travel for sessions?

Getting there is hard? Tell us. Travel help may be available through NIHB medical transportation, and we'll help you arrange it. Some counsellors also travel to communities.

We're currently focused on Saskatchewan, Alberta and Manitoba. You're still welcome to send this in. We'll be honest about what we can find near you.

How would sessions be covered?

Counsellors need your number to bill NIHB, so we ask for it now. That way nothing holds up your first session. If you're not sure about your coverage, that's a completely normal answer. Sorting it out is part of what we do.

Coverage

First Nations: the 10-digit number on your status card. Inuit: your land claim beneficiary or enrolment number (or your NIHB N number). Only our team and the counsellor billing NIHB ever see it. It's never emailed.

Wapan only matches people with NIHB coverage. If you're Métis or non-status, see who can help.

What's bringing you in?

Check anything that fits. There are no wrong answers, and you can say more (or nothing more) below.

Who would feel right to sit across from?

These preferences genuinely shape who we reach out to on your behalf.

An Indigenous counsellor?
Gender of your counsellor (check any that feel right)
When could you meet? (check all that work)
How soon are you hoping to start?

Read it over, then send it our way.

Here's what we'll see. Tap any section to change it.

It's with us now.

You'll hear from us within 2 business days. If we can't find the right fit nearby, we'll say so honestly and point you to who can help.
